In the years of the invasion of the Kingdom of Sweden
Poland was ruled by the eminent monarch Jan II. Casimir Vasa (1648 - 1668). In the English environment he was also known by the name John II. Casimir Vasa. In 1655, enemy Swedish troops advanced very quickly towards the capital Krakow and the king himself was in danger. Under the threat of the capture of Wawel Castle, Jan II. decided to open the royal treasury and transport the crown jewels to a temporary hiding place behind the solid walls of Ľubovnian Castle. This plan was secured by the mayor of Spiš, Jerzy Sebastian Lubomirski. John II. Before the siege of Cracow, Kazimierz fled into exile in Silesia.
Concerned about his subjects and his territory, John II. decided to return from exile to liberate the Polish royal city. During his return in 1656, Jan II. stopped at Ľubovnian Castle, where the most valuable treasures of the Kingdom of Poland were kept - the treasury and the crown jewels. A rare visit to Stara Ľubovňa was presented in the novel The Flood by the writer Henryk Sienkiewicz.
Life of John II. was marked by wars not only with Sweden, but also with other countries such as Russia, Turkey and other major powers. After very exhausting fighting, his army was also facing more battles, which they were worried about. That is why John II. decided to serve his soldiers gin, which was gaining popularity in Europe at that time thanks to its healing properties. After ingestion, this drink relieved the soldiers of anxiety, fear and gave them strength and determination for further battles.
Perhaps thanks to the "gurage - courage" of his armies, they achieved significant victories.
Building on the rich distilling history of this region, we are honoured to continue the traditions of our ancestors and to pass them on from generation to generation. John II. Gin is one of them.
